I think I see this same issue elsewhere on the support forum, but wanted to chime in with my situation. After updating to the latest plugin version (1.9.3), the podcast player shows but will not play audio. The download link results in a 404 error. I have reverted back to version 1.8.9 and everything is fine.

The rest of my plugins are updated. We use Flywheel hosting. I can’t test further since I reverted so we don’t have any downtime, but I wanted to report.

Thanks for an otherwise good plugin!

    Hi there,

Thanks for reporting. Are you using WordPress SEO by Yoast? It seems that there are some conflicts between SSP and WordPress SEO that cause this exact issue.

I can’t test anything on your site, but if you setup a staging site with v1.0.3 on it then I can test – I’m sure Flywheel are able to setup a staging site for you.

There’s not really much more I can do until I have an environment on your hosting in which to test.

    Cheers,
    Hugh

A possible fix here that has worked for a number of other people is to exclude any URLs containing podcast-download from your site’s cache. I’m not sure how Flywheel manage their cache, or if you have another plugin that does it for you, but that could help fix this.

I am having the same problem and I do not have a cache plug-in running. The problem started after the last update.

Please disable all of your other plugins then check to see if the problem still persists. If that fixes it then reactivate your plugins one by one until the problem returns. Once you’ve done all that then let me know the results and we can go from there.

    Cheers,
    Hugh

Disabled all plugins-still not playing on WordPress site, with Divi theme.
RSS fine checked, feed is fine to ITnes, Sticher & Soundlcloud.

@kalaviv In that case the issue is most likely with Divi. Please revert to a default WordPress theme (e.g. Twenty Twelve) and see if the issue still persists.

    Thanks,
    Hugh

I’m also having this same issue, which started with the last update. We don’t use an SEO plugin and have had no issues with this before. I’m watching for any possible update on this.

Hugh sorry to be a pain. But am wondering the latest podcast I did plays on site!
But the previous don’t and yes since last update of plugin.
CAN U CHECK THIS AND HELP US!

As it’s weird, m not sure what I did different in this podcast than others?
I’m not that techy so is there a simple solution? That’s why we love your plugin.
    Thanks

Also suddenly the ability to see “versions” of a podcast post, for example so we can edit the text that accompanies it- is gone, I looked in settings to show on page in WP and the option is not there. Nor is it there in th little box to right under “publish” where one can usulaly see versions….

@kalaviv When I go to the link you provided I get a security error in my browser so I’m not going to click on that link again.

To everyone who is having this issue – please check for plugin & theme conflicts before I can help you any further. To do this following these steps:

    1. Switch to a default WordPress theme (e.g. Twenty Twelve) and see if that fixes the issue. If it does then the problem is with your theme and you will need to contact your theme author about it.
    2. If that does not help, then deactivate all of your plugins (except for SSP) and test it again. If it is now fixed then reactivate your plugins 1 by 1 until the problem returns. You will then have found which plugin is conflicting with SSP.

Once you have done that please let me know of your findings and I will respond accordingly, but until you have done that there is absolutely nothing I can do to help as I do not have enough information.

I can 100% guarantee that SSP and the audio player all work correctly with a default WordPress installation, so the issues that you are experiencing are all to do with third-party code that I have no control over. I might be able to accommodate for that code in this plugin, but I need more info fro you before I can do that.

If you have a further issue please each open a new support topic for it as I can then help you each individually.

    Thanks,
    Hugh

SORRY that link I sent was messed up somehow, I was changing y url:
https://www.yogablissdance.com/series/marketing/, gets you to page. The ones not working are mp4? the 1 the last 1 is mp3 and that plays. does that help?
So that deosn’t fit with the suspect theme theory ??

@kalaviv That looks and sounds like a caching issue on your side. As I have mentioned on plenty of other support threads here, please make sure that URLs with podcast-download in them are excluded from your cache.

    Thanks,
    Hugh

Sorry I did see that but is there a guide on how to fix this- I’m not tehcy so I know what cache is but only as it relates to firefox and a computer. LInk to how to please!

    Plugin Contributor Hugh Lashbrooke

    (@hlashbrooke)

That depends on what caching plugin you use or how your server handles caching, so I can’t give you a standard guide on that. You’ll either need to ask the developer if your caching plugin, or contact your host about it.

I’ve got caching from the server end but I’ve not only disabled it for any URL containing “podcast-downloads” but I disabled it entirely to test and this issue still remains. I’ve also shut down all other plugins and switched to the WP default theme to test with no change. The only way I can make it work is to roll back to SSP 1.8.11. I’m beginning to get concerned the more versions back we become.

I can’t keep the podcast offline all the time because the site is popular, but I would be happy to give you some access at specific times with the issue active if you would like to check this for yourself. In fact, I would be grateful for the help.

My issues are the same as the OP, not KalaViv. Thanks.
