Podcast page empty after upgrade

I’m not sure what would be causing this exactly unless you made some customisations to the plugin’s template files. First thing I would suggest is resaving your plugin settings and the resaving the permalinks to see if that helps – let me know if it does not.

In the future, you should always update plugins in a test environment first – especially if you are skipping so many versions in your update. This applies to all plugins and themes really and it’s generally a good idea to stick to that unless you are absolutely certain nothing will go wrong in the update process.

The previous developer highly-customized this site, so pretty much everything breaks something, and I have no test environment. It is possible he had customized the archive page to work with his theme…

I have resaved settings, permalinks and individual podcast episode posts. Still nothing.

I think you’ll just have to go through the previous dev’s customisations and work out where the issue is. I would recommend looking the theme’s root folder for the files ‘archive-podcast.php’ and ‘single-podcast.php’ – if those exist you should delete (or just rename) them then make sure the podcast settings say to use the plugin’s built-in templates and you should be sorted. If that doesn’t work (or those files don’t exist in the theme) then there will be other conflict in one of the plugins or in the theme that is causing the issue, in which case I cannot help you any further.

ok – I’ve given up on that particular fix, but I have a related question. I have managed to restore the custom menu function to this site, and if I add all podcast episodes to a series, I can put that link on the main menu. The result is the series page, but it seems to throw everything into one narrow column on the left. Is there any way inside the plugin to control the look of this page, or will I need to hack some CSS somewhere?

I wouldn’t calling it ‘hacking’ the CSS, but you can add any CSS rules you like to your theme’s style.css file that will override the rules set by the plugin. The built-in templates aren’t guaranteed to work with every theme, so overriding the CSS like this is the best way to make small modifications to them sot hat they work with your particular theme.
