I’m using WP version 3.2.1 with the Minimal Xpert theme by WP Explorer. The theme comes with the Nivo Slider.

When I upload 960 x 320 pixel PNG files into the media library to fit into the slider, the image size becomes much, much bigger with dimensions of 3262 × 1387 for example. As a result, my image files do not display properly.

When uploading or selecting the image from the library to add to Nivo Slider, I’ve tried selecting the medium and large image sizes rather than full size. I also saved smaller image sized PNG files and uploaded them, but they just got bigger once uploaded and further magnified in the slider. My last resort was to edit the image in the library and scale it to a smaller size. No luck.

I’m not sure if it’s an issue with uploading to the media library or an issue with Nivo slider or the theme, but I thought I’d start with addressing the upload issue first since I noticed the image size getting larger.

How can I get my images to display properly in Nivo Slider at 960 x 320?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Hi esmi,

Thanks for your help. Deactivating plugins and then re-adding them one-by-one to find the problem plugins is usually my course of action as well.

The problem ended up being the dpi of the image file. Lowering the dpi helped; however, why the media library likes to magnify the size is still a mystery to me.
