I haven’t been able to get the Paid Memberships Pro Login page to work, even with an admin account. I keep getting the rather unhelpful error “There was a problem with your username or password.” If I forcefully go to the WordPress default, I can login with an admin account (which requires 2FA). I can also login via my host’s backend (automatic, doesn’t use a password).

I thought it might have something to do with reCAPTCHA settings, since I use WordFence, so I disabled the reCAPTCHA setting there (though it shouldn’t affect non-default login/registration pages), but it didn’t help. I tried disabling reCAPTCHA for PMPro too, since it STILL didn’t work, but no luck; I had to go back to using the default WordPress login page (which is obviously not ideal).

I’ve tried finding other folks with similar issues, with no luck as to what could be causing mine. Help!

    Hello,

To start, have you seen this document for hosting membership sites on WordPress.com?

    I don’t see the relevance. I’m using the self-hosted version of WordPress…

I’m sorry for the confusion. You mentioned Automattic (which is WordPress.com) and hosting and assumed they were your host.

This can sometimes happen when the site has links that do not match exactly. This would include using www or HTTPS.

Other plugins can cause conflicts with the PMPro login page. Have you tested this with other plugins disabled?

Debugging can be complicated and is often a slow process. Therefore, ruling out a conflict with another plugin is the next thing I would recommend looking at.

    Hi there,
I mentioned that the login to my host’s backend is automatic, not Automattic. That is, I don’t type a login or password to get to the WP Admin from my host, SiteGround.

Is there a way to check about “links that do not match exactly,” when we’re talking about the PMPro login page? I’ve already confirmed the Site URL and everything in the settings. The only other plugin I tested this with was Wordfence, but I can try testing with the others…

Thank you! Oh my, I have been around too long when I just assume automatic is Automattic! Sorry for the confusion.

I am sorry this continues to be a problem.
    Here are a few ideas.
Another problem can be a theme. Some 3rd party themes that advertise they work with PMPro will copy our templates. Does this problem happen when you disable your theme and use PMPro with a default theme like TwentyTwenty?

Another thing to check, on siteground they run their own optimizing plugin that controls caching. You will want to make sure the caching is disabled for the pmpro pages. See this post for details.

I hope one of these helps with troubleshooting.
