Plugins & Uploads directory permissions issue

  • Hello website was transferred to new host & now I can’t install plugins.

    If I try to upload .zip usingWP Admin /wp-admin/plugin-install.php I get error message: “Unable to create directory uploads/2015/02. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

    Then if I FTP CHMOD /public_html/wp-content/plugins from 755 to 775 every theme’s stylesheet breaks. I can FTP upload unzipped plugins to /public_html/wp-content/plugins but they are not viable in Admin: /wp-admin/plugins.php

    Does the host need to do something here? I am out of ideas. Many thanks in advance for any assistance

  • Suggest that you ask your web hosting support, most likely the problem is the OWNER of the files+directories, if they have experience with WordPress they will be able to fix this for you pronto.
