Plugins: “update now” link missing
-
Hello,
Since the advent of 5.x and it’s forced autoupdates (yes, I know I can deactivate it) we are missing the “update now”-Link below plugins with updates on the plugin page.
We did not activate autoupdates because of very bad experiences with plugin updates in the past. So we will only activate something like this if there also is an (actually working) autobackup and -restore feature implemented that is run before automatic plugin updates.
So with the link missing we now need to update via the backend update page or the bulk update option on the plugin page and that is very user-unfriendly, as only two or three plugins actually are updated with this way and then you have to start again. Also there often is no visual feedback that something actually is happening.
This (the missing “update now” link) happens on a lot of WordPress-based sites we run (on multiple different hosts), but only one still has the “update now”-Link below the plugin entries of the plugin page and we cannot find out why it is shown there but not in other WordPress installations.
If you want to ascertain that users actually DO update their plugins, it is highly counterproductive IMO to make manual updates as difficult and user-unfriendly as possible.
How to get the “update now” links back in all WordPress installations? I tried multipe search terms in this forum but the search did not come up with anything helpful.
TIA.
