• When automatically updating plugins, I get a plugin installed successfully message, however the plugin page still says that a new plugin is available with the same version number of the one I just automatically installed. Not sure if the plugin is actually updating and it’s just not registering or what.

I also got a success message when automatically updating WordPress itself to 3.2.1 but the message that there was a new version available – 3.2.1 – remained in the dashboard and there was no .maintenance file to be found on the server. Finally manually installed 3.2.1 and the message disappeared.

Anyone know why this happening and know of a solution? I don’t mind updating WordPress manually, but to update all of the plugins would take quite some time on all of the various sites I manage.

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – upgrading manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php
