I was using SMF with Tiny Portal before, but now trying to switch over to WordPress. I have WordPress running, but now it won’t install plugins.

Themes wouldn’t work at first, either. That now works, although I don’t know why because I didn’t change anything. When I try to install a new plug in (Buddy Press at first), it says downloading and just hangs there. The site doesn’t freeze, but it won’t install. When I looked to see if any files uploaded I find them in my wp-content folder. The .tmp files, anyway. There’s nothing in my plugins folder. It does that for any plugin I try to upload and install.

I’ve tried to manually upload an unzipped plugin through FTP and can get some to work that way, but why won’t it work through my plugins dashboard in admin?

And I should add, when I try to activate Buddy Press after uploading manualy I get an internal server error 500.

I found the problem and fixed it. The information I put in my 2nd post on this topic had information that might have tipped someone off for helping me. [You have had your say. Please move on…] But enough of me grumbling about rude people.

Just to prove I’m the better person in this, I’m going to say what fixed it.

I use 1&1 for my web hosting (as I tried to say in my deleted post). So if you use them and have a problem, create a .htaccess file and place this content inside

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

save file as .htaccess file text file and put that file in the main folder of your site underneath the wp-admin, wp-content and wp-includes folder.
