Plugins for online version?

  • I’m new to wordpress, and this is an embarrassing question but…

    Are plugins only for the wordpress version that you download or are they for the online blog version as well (i.e. the one hosted by the wordpress website)

    can’t do much on the wordpress.com site! It is nice to start out with, but you can’t add plugins there!
