I am using YARPP on my site, and trying to find how to shorten the titles output by the widget.

I use a function on other parts of my site (recent posts list for example) to shorted the output titles down and add “…” at the end.

But looking through the included .php files for yarpp I can’t seem to find where I would insert such a function (and as far as I know the ability to shorten the output isn’t built into the plugin.

Anyone have any thoughts or advice on this?

(and please don’t say that I should go back and shorten all the titles on my posts)
    ??

Thanks so much for any help.

I’m not sure if that was a joke or not – but seeing as my post now reads “[moderated duplicate posts deleted.]” I have to assume I unwittingly posted duplicates.

I had some issues when trying to post the first time – I got a “topic not found” error message multiple times upon hitting the ‘post’ button, and when I refreshed the forum each time after that error I didn’t see my post in the forum, so I assumed it didn’t go through.

My point is, if I did indeed post multiple threads, it definitely wasn’t on purpose. I moderate a few forums myself, so I can understand how annoying duplicate posts are.
    Sorry about that.

I’m not sure if that was a joke or not

No, I thought the posts were a joke…it posted about a dozen times in different forums…no problem…honest mistake.

Now to the question, I’m not sure how to shorten the title of the output…of course, you can shorten the content directly in the configuration settings. I notice the plugin was just updated to include rss features, so not sure it that would help. Anyway, my reply here will bump this back up to the top, so maybe someone else will see it and have a recommendation.

Well, just in case anyone else is trying to do the same thing:

After looking around for a while and not finding any other solution, I went ahead and updated to the new beta Yarpp 3.0

With it’s new templating feature I was able to style the output using any of the theme functions I already had. So far so good – the titles are shortened down to a length that won’t mess up my layout.

But, I should add that being a beta release – there does seem to be some bugginess in using it with WP 2.7 (for example the ‘disallow by..’ menu won’t load up in settings).

    Hi all,

Sorry I didn’t see all the multiple posts until now. ^^

Yes, you should be able to do this with templates in YARPP 3. I just released a new beta of YARPP 3: 3.0 beta 2 (dl link). Hope that helps!
