[Plugin: Yet Another Related Posts Plugin] Template system does not allow underscores

I found a bug with the YARPP templating system that kept my template file from displaying in the dropdown menu in the plugin admin.
After a lot of trial and error with my code and the file location, it seems it’s actually the underscores in my filename:
yarpp_template_related.php
is not recognized as a template. yarpp-template-related.php is.
