• The snippet length appears to be broken following an upgrade to WP 2.8.

Despite being set to a non-default length, it only shows the default 10 characters.

@funkster – was this after an update to 2.8 or after updating YARPP to 3.0.6? 3.0.6 changed the excerpting algorithm used from being a custom one to the builtin wp_post_excerpt() function. Perhaps this is why you’re seeing a change in behavior.

There’s an excerpt length option on the options page… try changing that and see if it works.

I have it set to 10 words but it’s only doing 10 characters, not 10 words…

I then changed it to 20 words instead but 20 characters are then displayed, not 20 words.

Yes, part of the algorithm change involved changing the spec from words to characters in length… I apologize for the mix up in the options text. It’ll be fixed in the next release.

Thanks for the info. How can we make it so it doesn’t cut off a word then? if I set it to 100 for example, the last word is only part of a word in many cases. It should really go by number of words, not characters if possible.

@mitch – I did them at the same time and so I don’t know if it’s WP 2.8 or version 3.0.6

The xx number of characters v words is a real pain. The sooner it’s fixed the better. We will all have to remember to reverse any changes we made to frig the number of words too!

I decided instead of fixing the description, to actually go back to essentially the old algorithm. You can test it now in beta 2:

Let me know how that goes. ??

Thanks mitch for 3.0.7 beta2 release, actually i faced the same problem and i was going to edit the algorithm manually until i saw this topic by accident.
