• Hi,
at first – nice plugin, thanks.

I have any blogs, used as single installation with “Google XML Sitemap” as sitemap generator. Here I have .xml and .xml.gz files.

Now I made an multisite installation and switch the single blogs into the multisite with your plugin. I have the 404 error plugin installed and so I can see, that the Google Bot searched for the xml.gz file.

Is the a way to generate xml.gz files also? I try to fix it with an rewrite rule (RewriteRule ^sitemap\.xml$ /sitemap.xml.gz [L]) – but it fails.

    Cheers

    Torsten

  • No, this plugin does not create an actual file (but a feed) and adding a routine to compress the feed on the fly would make it too complicated. However, if your server (hosting provider) can handle HTTP compression and you have control over it’s settings (to activate it) you might be able to set it up.

Read more on https://www.http-compression.com/ and if you are on a shared host, ask your provider if it is possible and how.
