[Plugin: wp-Typography] Extra HTML element

Is there a way to add an extra HTML element? My current theme has #masthead before #content. Unfortunately, the text in #masthead isn’t processed by wp-typography, which doesn’t look good since it’s the most important text on the homepage. Where can I add this div?
