[Plugin: WP-Table Reloaded] Table cut off after save

  • Hi Tobias,
    Great plug-in, first of all! Done a really good job.

    Though, I am facing a problem after editing a larger table (102 rows, 10 columns; “Suhosin”-vars already unlimited) when I want to save the changes. Then the table is cut off at row 91, column B… or after 902 fields. The input fields of columns C to J disappear, as well as all rows from here.

    And hiding columns and/or rows is gone after saving this large table, too. It just works when I limit the number of columns.

    Any idea why this happens?

    thanks for your post – and sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

    As you have already checked Suhosin (which is the reason for this in probably 99.99% percent of the cases), my only other guesses are:
    – Is there maybe another security extension installed on the server, like “mod_security”?
    – Do you have “weird” content in your cells, like characters in other character encodings (e.g. characters in foreign languages)?

    Can you maybe try again with Suhosin turned off entirely (not just unlimited limits)?

    As a workaround, you could try to edit your table in (e.g.) Excel and then upload the table as a CSV file, replacing the existing table. That won’t help with hiding columns though.

    Nothing to apologise for. Your plug-in is still freeware and the service you provide is hard to find somewhere else.

    I’m afraid that I already received a pretty well-disposed exception from my provider unlimiting Suhosin for my IP. Turning it off might be hard to realise. But how could “mod_security”, that indeed is as a loaded module on the server, be modified to avoid potential problems?

    And there is no weird stuff in the cells. The most “weird” sign is a comma.

    I actually hoped that I could get rid off the Excel table and do filing of my whiskys completely in WP. But I don’t want to present all information to the public. What a pity!

    Hi Stefan,

    yes, not many providers allow for a customization of Suhosin, so you might be really lucky already.
    I’m not sure though, if and how mod_security can be configured. I’m actually not even sure that it could cause this, as (from as far as I have experienced it personally) it usually just blocks the entire request and gives an error message, without simply modifying the request variables. That’s something that Suhosin is known for however. And as Suhosin has so many config options, it’s kind of hard to find out which ones need to be increased…

    If things like commas are the “weirdest” characters, that would rule out the character encoding problem as well (which should also show different symptoms, namely that the table can’t be loaded at all and is reported as empty).
