• From what I can tell it looks like SuperCache does not work in “Full ON” mode on MediaTeple’s gs service. With “WP Super Cache Status” set to just “ON” the SuperCached page is always rebuilt – the footer notice (time and date) is different on each page load…

With SuperCache set to “Half ON” the footer notice remains the same on each successive page load. I would really prefer to use “Full ON”. Does anyone know if this is indeed the case and if there is a way to get “Full ON” working on MediaTemple’s gs service?

  • I am experiencing the same problem.
    Bot not with all browsers.
I have activated Super Cache Compression and it appears to be working fine on MediaTemple’s (gs).

On a Mac (OS X 10.5.7) if I view a cached page with Firefox 3.5 I get the Gzipped version, which is NOT flushed at each request.

If I load the cached page with Safari 4 I get the normal version, which is rendered EACH time.

I have compression off on my site and it always is re-rendered each time, no matter which browser I use.

If you get a different timestamp on each page load that’s probably your rewrite rules in the .htaccess.

If you can’t fix them or they look ok just use the plugin in half-on mode.

I did double check the htaccess rules on the site (actually on a couple MediaTemple sites) and they are correct.

Donncha, Isn’t there still quite a bit of CPU usage when just using “Half ON”?

I would really like to figure out why “Full ON” will not work on MediaTemple. They have been sending CPU overage notices and I believe the “Full ON” mode would greatly reduce CPU usage.

I have opened a support ticket on MediaTemple and await their thoughts on this.

No, in half-on mode your pages are still cached. It’s only if your site is hit by a huge surge of traffic that half-on mode doesn’t cope.

After monitoring for a few days, it looks that with SuperCache in half-on the CPU usage only went down maybe 15-20%.

MediaTemple’s support suggestion was to replace WP SuperCache with a DB Cache Plugin (https://wordpress.net.ua/db-cache)

I just installed the latest version of WP Super Cache on an install of WP 2.8.5 which didn’t have WP Super Cache before. All on (gs).

    REMOTELY:
I am getting a warning on the plugin admin page, stating the wp-cron.php file can not be reached. It does have the same problem on another domain (on the same gs account).

    LOCALLY:
I have two different installs on two other versions of the site, in the public folder of my machine. They are both version 0.9.6.1, yet one is stating the ploblem and the other one not! This is so weird.
Neither of the websites is listed in the hosts file.

I resolved that problem. It was a bug in my own i18n implementation, my bad! ??
