[Plugin: WP Super Cache] Preloading in Multisite

    I seem to be getting some inconsistent results in the preloading of my multisite network of sub-folder sites on a single domain. But it may be my misunderstanding of the process, so any help gratefully received!
    Just to clarify, I have activated Super Cache individually on each sub-blog. Now on to my questions:

    On the contents tab, do the stats refer to the sub-blog (as I used to think) or refer to the whole network?

    Does regenerating the stats have any effect on the caching process?

    Does preloading one blog using the preload now button only preload the sub-blog in question?

    And following on from this, if so, if I preload several sub-blogs in succession, what if any effect might that have on the preloading process?

    I’ve tried looking at what’s actually happening in the cache, but things are a little unclear, so I’d like to get the facts on the processes right before drawing any conclusions.

    1. stats are for one blog only.
    2. no.
    3. yes.
    4. you should probably preload one blog at a time as the plugin uses the same filenames to keep track of where the preload is.

    Thanks a lot for clarifying things, Donncha, that’s a real help. But I’m unclear about your comment in (4), “the plugin uses the same filenames to keep track of where the preload is”. Could I ask you which filenames you are referring to? I suspect that might be a cause of my results, as I virtually never (but sometimes I do) get an email confirming the completion of a preload. Perhaps the overlapping of the preloads is screwing things up a bit.

    I was wrong. The counter is stored in the blog options table so there won’t be any conflict, but if you cancel a preload while there’s a preload happening on another blog it will cancel both preloads.

    The current page that is being cached is stored in a text file, wp-content/cache/permalink_url.txt I think. The settings page reads that to tell you which page is being preloaded. If there are 2 preloads it might show the wrong page on one but the right page is getting preloaded.

    Well, that’s a relief! As I have 24 different sub-blogs in this multisite set-up, setting it up so the preloads don’t overlap is a little challenging. Unfortunately although I always get the start email, I haven’t been getting the complete email of late, consequently it’s a litle hard to work out how long the preloads are taking. Have you heard of this happening before – I couldn’t find anyone else mentioning it specifically.
