• Hello guys, I am in process of making my photography website.

    Its link is https://vigaversa.co.cc

I just installed wp super cache on it. I set it to on. In the advanced tab I set compress files and used mod rewrite.

And there was something mentioned on plugin homepage that you should have a .htaccess file with the given coding in your wp-content/cache folder. I didn’t have that file so i added the code and saved it at that location.

I had two files called wp-cache-config.php and advanced cache.php, but didn’t knew much abot them so I left them as it is.

Now the problem is when i use gzip firefox and IE are showing download options of .gz files. And when i turn it off, it shows the website again. So right now i’ve turned it off. ??

I tried to google this problem and I found this article.

    https://allmybrain.com/2007/11/08/making-wp-super-cache-gzip-compression-work/

But seems just too complicated to me and its really old.

Could somebody help me with it ? Please gudie how to get it working correctly.

Here is the htaccess file in wp-content

    # BEGIN WPSuperCache
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>

  • The .htaccess in your wp-content/ directory should be in the directory below that, where wp-load.php is.

Just leave compression off and turn on mod_deflate in your server. It’s not quite as efficient (it doesn’t cache gzipped content so each page is compressed by your server when it’s served) but it will be better than no compression at all.

Thanks for the reply donncha ??

Ok, I’ve put the htaccess file in the root folder now.

Should I use some other plugin to try and see if gzip works first ? Or maybe try and get the super cache compression working ?

I found this article to use gzip or mod_deflate. I’ll try them and see if they help. ??

Ok so now i’ve got an improvement of 2 seconds in load time with mod_deflate and super cache. ?? Thanks for your inputs donncha.

Even though I’m still curious with the gzip enabled thing.
