  • Yes, it seems that the recent wave of spam comments are getting past Wp-SpamFree.

    Hopefully they’ll fix it soon.

I’m having the same issue. I started getting things along the lines of “great theme. where did you get it?” with the obvious flags of being spam.

I suggest enabling full comment logging (on spamfree’s options page) and after you get a few comments that should have been blocked, submit the log to the developer.

Grab the Cookies for Comments plugin. It helps reduce the amount of spam.

Yeah recently, there has been a new wave of spam. Those polite ones and those which duplicate/copy those approved comments on the same blog post. How do we combat them without captcha?

I’m plagued with this sort of ‘polite’ spam – getting tons of them a day. I’ve contacted the folk at wp-spamfree via the contact form on their site several times – not had a reply. I’ve sent them a couple of message via twitter – no repsponse there either. Getting the feeling that they don’t give a s**t. So now looking for another plugin to combat spam as wp-spamfree no longer works.

I block every word or phrase that lead to spam, and that reduce alot of spamming.

And somehow I noticed that IP address from 173.234.*.* were doing this kind of spamming ??

We’ve also been seeing this problem recently. Everything was fine for so long, and suddenly over the past month an incredible amount of spam has been coming through. We submitted spam logs to the plugin author and after 1 week of not hearing anything I gave them a call.

They said they’re aware of this problem and are working internally and with WordPress to try to get it fixed. Unfortunately, they didn’t have an estimate on when they think that’ll happen, but they said to keep an eye out for a plugin upgrade that hopefully will include a fix.

Meantime, we’re going to have to switch plugins until this can be resolved. Disappointing because it’s an otherwise great plugin.

nice of them to tell us!

    any update on this?

There is a notice on the developer’s site.

“WordPress has temporarily pulled WP-Spamfree due to technical problems. We are working to get it reinstated as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
