  • thank you so much Martin! 100%!

You need to execute binary files.
    In my case, I can’t:
EWWW Image Optimizer requires exec(). Your system administrator has disabled this function.

You are trying the latest version, aren’t you, @flapane?

I wasn’t able to use the plugin previously and now I am and I’m on shared hosting with Hostgator.

    Yep.
It’s a matter of hosting security policy.

Ouch. Sorry about that for you then. Guess you’re still stuck with Smush.it then ??

    @martin
Which, unfortunately, has never worked or so. ??
Recently, I started using a Windows build of jpegoptim, so that I can optimize the image BEFORE uploading it on the webserver. I can’t optimize the thumbnails, but it’s better than nothing.

same here… :/ disabled the plugin, so that media upload keeps working.

Performing server based conversion would likely reduce server resources available to clients and connecting to an external service may not be the safest way possible.
I’d recommend giving up “ease of use” and optimize your images before you upload them
I’ve been having great results with jpegmini (your host could get a license and support this service, but for me it’s just as fine).
It supports uploading lots of images at once. It will send you a link to download your optimized images
    check it out
    https://www.jpegmini.com/

Good news, the Smush It plugin is working again for me now. I was also able to smush the backlog of 20 WP images that had not been done automatically before.

I wish Yahoo would get their act together so the service would stay consistent, let’s hope. It’s certainly not the fault of the plugin author, that’s for sure.

    for me dont work
10 days with the same problem
Automatic smushing has been disabled temporarily due to an error. Operation timed out after 20000 milliseconds with 0 bytes received
i have used for 6 months without problem but now
new year dont wont to work.

    yep, still not working…

Probably easier to download the media library, smush it through their web site and re-upload the optimized images… My only concern is that with “force regenerate thumbnails” those smushed files would be overwritten..

For those who are looking for answers to this error: this is because the Yahoo API is not responding, not due to a fault with the current plugin.

It sounds like perhaps Yahoo is throttling server connections after x months.

If you’re a developer, you might want to try to modify this plugin to work with Kraken API https://kraken.io/developers (caveat: we also don’t know how long they’ll be around or how their performance is).

    Elvis has left the building.

You may also want to consider

    EWWW Image Optimizer
    CW Image Optimizer

I have just started evaluating as a replacement for Smush It.
