the information you’re looking for is already shown by WP SlimStat in the ‘Raw Data’ table, just in a different way: as a more detailed list of entries instead of a world map.
There are mainly three reasons why this hasn’t been added to my plugin yet:
1. Geolocation is still extremely unreliable for tracking regions smaller than a Country (at least outside the United States). In Europe, for some known IP’s, I get a wide range of results depending on what service I use to locate them. So I consider this a waste of db space and computational power, to keep track of cities, regions and other detailed information about visits.
2. I’d prefer spending my spare time implementing advanced features that make WP SlimStat a powerful tool to track not just ‘where your visitors came from’, but also what they did on your site. Starting with version 2.5 you can track events, like Google +1 clicks, Facebook Likes etc. Plus you can track or ignore spammers, have an advanced engine for mobile browsers’ recognition, etc. A ‘fancy’ map gives less information than you can currently get with WP SlimStat…
3. In order to capture this information, WassUP connects to an external service ( https://freegeoip.net/json/ ) every time the information is not already available in the database. This means having to wait for the remote service to send back the information, thus slowing down by a few orders of magnitute the performance of your blog. WP SlimStat relies on a local cache, and your blog’s performance is not affected if a remote service is down or slower than usual.
Nonetheless, if this feature will be requested by a consistent number of users, I’m willing to implement it ?? So if you still think it makes sense, start campaigning about it!
