• Our bloggers are complaining about a lot of spam which is coming from their comment forms. Someone has either hacked reCAPTCHA or I someone has alot of free time to spam. We are working with WPMU and have reCAPTCHA 2.7 installed.

Has anyone else come across this problem and if so is there a fix?

Does anyone else know of another good WPMU Captcha Plugin?

    Thanks you

Are you sure they are comments? Or might they be trackbacks?

Install the Simple Trackback Validation plugin. I use it, it works quite well.

    Yeah, what Otto42 said.

Also, what version of WPMU is it? And I also recommend you try reCAPTCHA 2.9.1, which is the latest version. Make sure you carefully read the instructions. As far as I know, reCAPTCHA 2.7 doesn’t even work on WPMU. (I’m the developer for WP-reCAPTCHA 2.8 and above, and WPMU compatibility was implemented by me).

They are comments. I’m receiving about 20-30 per day. They seem to be getting caught by akismet but I still get all the notices in my email of new comments. I’ll try the trackback validation plug too. thanks for the recommendation.

    Please refer to the FAQ.

I’m still getting comments (not trackbacks) go through to the spam queue, all with the word “mammamia” in them and a long list of links.

    I’m using WP-recaptcha 2.94 on WordPress 2.7. I don’t have Akismet or any other anti-spam plugin enabled. Should I?

Same here. I’m getting lots of comment spam as well. I have all trackback and pingbacks turned off, globally and for every individual post. I even have the simple trackback validation plugin installed just in case.

It seems to be automated comment spam, so somehow they found a way to circumvent the wp-recaptcha plugin. OR as someone else said, there is someone on the internet with a lot of time to manually enter all this.

As soon as I turn off user entered comments, the spam stops.

Unfortunately I’m going to have to go with another captcha plugin until this gets fixed.

CAPTCHA’s by themselves alone are of debatable value.

Try adding one of the following plugins: Akismet, Defensio, TypePad Anti-Spam, or Bad Behavior.

I’m also getting about 20 spam comments each day in the Akismet spam queue. Should ReCaptcha have an option to just ignore/delete these comments instead of marking them as Spam and keeping them around? I think alot of people believe ReCaptcha isn’t working because of it accepts comments with incorrect text entry. Or am I missing something?
