    Was working fine before.

Before … what exactly? What changed on your site between when things were working and now?

but if you do to hibcc.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/HIN101.pdf it works.

No, it doesn’t. I get a “Page cannot be found” error trying to access the file directly.

    Hi Eric,

I basically moved my site from one server to another and had to change the domain name. I am in the process of building the site so I was using a temporary domain https://174.120.43.221/~h1bcc/hin-system/hin-resources/. You will see on this link the downloads are working.

Now as I am on a windows server I cannot use a temporary domain so I am having to access the site locally by changing the host file to 184.173.72.100 hibcc.org https://www.hibcc.org. This is the reason you are getting an error page when clicking on those links above.

Basically since I did the move the download links stopped working. I have created new publication, uploaded documents again but its stopped working.

I have found lots of posts saying that people have had problems when they have changed domain name with images and documents. I wondered if this is something that has a easy fix with your plugin. I am trying to avoid having to delete everything and start again as I have uploading over 30 or more documents.

    Thanks
    Ginnie

You’ve got a couple of things going on here, and it now makes sense.

First of all, I cannot access https://hibcc.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/HIN101.pdf because I’m not using my hosts file to point hibcc.org at your new server.

That means a file that works for you locally is breaking for everyone else who tries to access it. This is expected and, since you’re developing, not a big deal.

However … and this is a big however … it also means that WordPress can’t see the file, either. When you request the file through openfile.php in the plugin, it tries to load the file itself. So while you can see hibcc.org on your local machine, WordPress doesn’t seem to be able to.
