  • can you make sure that you are using the latest version? I’m not able to replicate this using version 0.6.3. There’s nothing shady on line 43 that should ever cause that issue.

if you still aren’t able to get it working with version 0.6.3, please email me at nate at milkandtang dot com with a copy of the plugin you downloaded, as well as anything that you can tell me about your configuration. that means server configuration, as well as wordpress (version, other plugins installed, etc).

sorry you’re having trouble. let’s see what we can do to get this solved!

I am using version 0.6.3 running 2.8.4 with a styled version of the K2 theme. I have lots of other plugins installed, so could be a conflict.

    Linux server, PHP ver. 4.49

ok. I’d love to take a look at this to resolve. is there any way that I could get admin access to your blog? you could create a temporary login so that I could access, and delete when I’m done. If you’re uncomfortable with that, no worries. it’s just the fastest way I can think of to troubleshoot. I’m wondering if somehow the file bacame corrupt upon upload to your server. either via you’d FTP client or otherwise.

oherwise, please email me a copy of the plugin you have on the server, so I can see if anything is corrupt. just the wp-prowl.php file is enough. that way we can continent this conversation through email as well. my email is Nate at milkandtang dot com. thanks!

    Email sent.

I’m having the same problem. On further investigation, it looks like the WP-Prowl script is written for PHP5, and the error is occurring on a PHP4 server due to the private/public declarations for the variables and functions.

Of course, the actual ProwlPHP library appears to require PHP5 as well, so those of us stuck on hosting providers that use PHP4 may be out of luck unless somebody wants to take the time to provide a PHP4-compatible version of the library itself.

Just to confirm, definitely a PHP4-related problem. I tried the plug-in on another server that was running PHP 5.2.9 and it installed and loaded up flawlessly.

Fortunately, I do have the option with my hosting provider of changing over to PHP5. I just haven’t needed to do so until now.

I get the same error.. I’ve switched my hosting over to php5, but still receive the same error when attempting to activate the plugin…

this should be fixed now. WP-prowl 0.7.0 is both PHP4 and PHP5 compatible, and all references to SimpleXMLElement have been replaced with custom code. let me know if you have any other issues.

    thanks!

I can confirm that WP-Prowl is now working great on my PHP4 WP install. Thanks for taking care of this, excellent plugin!
