It’s easy to edit the code and remove the footer_link.

But more to the point, that (and other) plugins don’t really protect anything. They just annoy your visitors by disabling functionality such as right click, clipboard, etc.

    Closed for breaking the rules.

And what Jan says is spot-on. These things are useless.

Why do all the www.remarpro.com staff members hate WP-Protect so much? I love the plugin and I’m happy to give them credit with a freakin footer link, its a free script for Christ’s sake. By the way, my site says “protected by little bizzy” not “little bizzy website management services” and either way I wouldn’t care!

You guys pretend to support GPL and open source and all that jazz but you do nothing but judge and criticize this plugin. Well guess what, the thousands and thousands of downloads it received disagreed with you.

So take your condescending attitudes somewhere else, your comments go directly against the philosophy of open source, GPL, and even the WordPress project itself.

No more hypocrisy! Bring WP-Protect back! Stop power-tripping!

Sorry you feel that way, but the simple fact is that there are rules for hosting your plugin (or themes) here. If a software author doesn’t comply with those rules then that code gets delisted.

I’m speculating because I’m only a forum member and not involved with plugins, but that one was adding a link onto the footer without asking first or providing the user a way to disable the link.

If there was an option to enable the link and it defaulted to OFF, then that would probably have been fine.

And about that plugin working, the whole idea of protecting your images and content that way is less effective than captchas… It just annoys your readers and doesn’t protect a thing.

This type of plugin does offer a little protection from those less educated people who come to your site and steal original content or images yiu’ve paid for.

I pay for all of my images from the various stock image sites and to have people come along and steal them is annoying.

Of course, a determined image or content thief can get past most scripts.

I disabled the plugin after seeing a “theme by Thailand…” in the footer. I could have removed it by changing the footer.php in the theme, but in the end, I couldn’t be bothered with using the plugin.

Of course, a determined image or content thief can get past most scripts.

Determined? Takes less than 10 seconds.
