The albums are sorted in the manage albums table the same way as they are in the front end display. That is the way it is designed.

However, i will think about this. You are on the wishlist.

I made it, but there is a restriction in functionality.
The sort order is (numeric or alfabetic) to the database content, so sorting on parent will sort on the parent album ids rather than the parent album names. Also when using qTranslate, sort on name or description will not always give the results you want, but grouping on parent (id) etc will work.

If you can live with that, re-install the plugin and use the Auto save version of the edit album admin page (Check Table IX item 18 if you did not do that already).

You bet I am using Auto Save! This is a feature that I really appreciate as I am making frequent changes (like adding HTML) to the Album contents. It would be such a hassle to have to “save” after every change.

I am going to re-install & see how it works. This site is now at 83 albums & counting so any sorting function is a blessing. Thank you for working on this!

This is the first time I have worked with an album — or WordPress. I am quite proficient with HTML, but this is not that much help with WordPress & I am on a learning curve for everything to do with this site. HTML has enabled me to format text in your Album, but my friend Helen, who I am doing this site for, is completely bewildered by even the simplest HTML. It would be good, in your next release, if there was a basic text-formatting set-up for the album texts.

If only for Helen & all those other people who think that everything should work like Facebook ??

On the next version it will even remember your last choice of ordering.

It is planned in the (far) future to integrate a tiny editor, but i cannot make promises to that now.

    Thanks for the update.

I have a (probably dumb) question about re-install:
On my WP Dashboard, there is a notice that I can UPDATE AUTOMATICALLY to WPPA 4.3.2

Will this work for me to get the ordering function or do I need to disable, remove, then install the new version?

Here’s the “dumb” question: What happens to my 83 albums if I remove my current version 4.2.11 ???

    Plugin Author Jacob N. Breetvelt

    (@opajaap)

Auto update is sufficient, if you WERE already on 4.3.2 you had to remove/re-install as i did not bump the revno for this patch.

You can ALWAYS de-activate and delete the plugin and later re-install the current or an earlier version without loosing photos and/or albums. When going back in version, you might need to check some settings or run Table VIII-3: setup. This will not harm your WPPA+ system.

BTW it is a quick patch for now, it will be nicer implemented in the next version.

As you are new to WP I wanted to clarify this.

You can ALWAYS de-activate and delete the (WPPA) plugin and later re-install

This is not so for most if not all other plugins. You can always de-activate/update/activate but deleting will delete settings and (mostly) all tables belonging to a plugin. So be aware of this when deleting other plugins than WPPA !!

    FANTASTIC!

I did the auto update…took only seconds to complete…and then, when I clicked on “Name”, all those albums (88 now!) flew into alphabetical order. Like magic.

    Thank you so very much!

    Karesansui,
Thanks for the heads-up on plugins. It would really help people like me, unaquainted with the intricasies of WordPress, if there were a little note beside “update automatically” that advises that settings, files & albums will not be affected.

    1. There is even no way to remove the database tables and photo files from within the plugin wppa+. This is to make sure that these type of catastrophies can not happen.

    2. The sortability of the albums tables (on all columns and both up and down) is fully featured in version 4.3.3

Catastrophe would indeed be the right word!

I don’t know how common it is to have so many albums, but I am VERY happy to have the sorting function. It will be even better when I don’t have to sort every time I go back, but that is not a big deal…

    Thanks again!

    I just installed 4.3.3

    A sorting dream come true!!!
