[Plugin: WP-OpenID] use without “Anyone can register”

I’m using WP-OpenID 2.2.2 with WP 2.5.1.

Our site is set up with “Anyone can register” turned off, because we want the administrator to be the only one who can add users. We want to be able to add OpenID-based user ID’s, but the new user dialog in WordPress doesn’t seem to allow us to do so. It requires an email address and a password to be entered.

When experimenting with WP-OpenID under “Anyone can register” mode, I notice that user ID’s are entered without email addresses and, apparently, without passwords (actually, I’m not sure about the passwords). Plus, the OpenID URL is put into the “Website” field.

To make this clearer, I’ll give an example. Assume the OpenID URL is this: https://foo.bar.myopenid.com

When logging in via that OpenID when “Anyone can register” is turned on, the Username goes in as “foo.bar.myopenid.com”, and the Website goes in as “https://foo.bar.myopenid.com. The email address is blank and I can’t tell if a password has been associated with the user.

But when I turn off “Anyone can register” and try to enter this info manually, the web page won’t let me, because there is no email address. Also, even if I add a password and a dummy email address, the OpenID is not recognized.

Does anyone know how to allow the administrator to manually allow OpenID-based user ID’s to wordpress when “Anyone can register” is turned off?
