Version 1 will only give you the bare-bone basics along with big wp-auction’s logo all over the place.

If you want the real stuff, visit their page for version 2 (Gold):

Download WP Auctions – Only $24.99

I’ve never seen this with any other WP plugin (so far), they do have a GPL policy.

Weird… Never thought of running into “crippleware” here.

Disregard the above, The GPL version is free and I didn’t expect a shareware version of this plugin (wasn’t mentioned anywhere on the plugin page) and for those who’d like to get into auctions, the price for the Gold version is worth it.

Much better, and I’m sure the plugin author would appreciate any constructive criticism which is conducive to bettering the plugin as well.

However, I do agree with you that it is potentially somewhat misleading. I haven’t downloaded the plugin, and haven’t seen anywhere on the WordPress plugin site so far where it mentions having only limited functionality, and that there’s a pay version with full functionality.
Unless I missed something, this seems rather shady, though it’s possible I just overlooked part of their website.

WP Auctions is a revolutionary plugin for WordPress which allows you to host auctions on your blog and to sell ANYTHING, completely fee-free!

should mention that this is only for the pay version, downloadable from their website.

As I said, seems to be a great plugin for someone who want to auction stuff but as you and I agree, some mention of it would have been appreciated somewhere in the plugin page.

Nothing wrong with a little entrepreneurship but you have to be up front about it. That’s why I hopped all over the guy, not disclosing the fact that if you want the full-blown package, you have to pay for it (nothing wrong with that) but this info can only be found on the author’s page. That’s what made things look a little shady to me.

But then again, we have to give them the benefit of the doubt…

    Cheers,
    Gene
