• Hi everyone,

I am trying to install the WordPress.com Stats plugin.
When I enter my API key I get the error:

    ——————————————————————-
“Error from last API Key attempt:

Your blog was unable to connect to WordPress.com. Please ask your host for help. (transport error – could not open socket: 110 Connection timed out)”
    ——————————————————————-

I am trying to use the same key that is successfully working with Akismet.

I have asked my webhost to investigate, they have requested:

    – The IP they need to connect to
    – Explanation of why this is required
    – Where they can consult documentation

I can handle the explanation part, and I’m assuming that there isn’t any documentation on this as I haven’t found anything on the WordPress sites/forums.

So all I need is IP address that the /wp-content/plugins/stats.php is trying to connect to.

    Can anyone shed some light?

    Thanks!

I have the same problem. with last version of WP and stats. My webhost ask for hostname wordpress.com use for this. I have searched for it with no success.

The hostname is stats.wordpress.com and the IPs are subject to change. A DNS lookup will find them. But I’d move to a host that does not restrict your connections.

    Thanks for the reply Andy.

Is it a waste of time asking the webhost to open a connection to the IP address currently assigned to stats.wordpress.com, if the IP will likely change (several times) in the future?

Moving hosts is not an option as I do not own the site (merely designing it).

Thought I would comment that the “Transport Error” no longer occurs after upgrade to WordPress 2.8.2
