Although it has not been updated for a while – there’s a plugin that does what you want:

“WordPress.com Stats Helper“

As far as I’m aware it works OK with the current WP and Stats versions.

Not only that, I think with the ability of reading stats, this plugin should also provide ways to display each post hits, top post, or something like that on the blog.

Working with may plugins worries me if they will slow down the access to my website.
