I have a similar problem but only for the category sitemap, post and page sitemaps are fine.

Same problem with all my sites.

1) First noticed that sitemaps were getting errors/warnings in Google Webmsater Tools.

2) Went to WordPress SEO XML Sitemaps and clicked ‘You can find your XML Sitemap here’ button and got 404.

3) Came to this Forum and saw post that recommended to ‘save settings’ which appeared to work. Also manually resubmitted sitemap in Webmaster Tools which cleared errors/warnings.

4) Later in the day 404 problem is back. Webmaster Tools again reporting errors/warnings on finding sitemap.

Any ideas?

I experince the same problem. I have to disable and enable the SEO XML sitemap setting every time I create a new post. Not sure if it′s returning 404-error after a specific time or if the error only occur when I create new posts and updates.

I disabled/enabled the sitemap feature, but without succes.
Strange is that the not found page isn’t right, the 404 template is loaded and the title from that latest post is used.

I had to turn W3 Total Cache Off, save the Yoast sitemap setting again, and it was there. Turned the cache back on so I will have to see what happens.

Try re-saving your permalink setting. (in many cases it fixes the 404 sitemap error). Hope this’ll help.
