• We are having a duplicate content issue on our WordPress website, that is on both first tag page and rest, the meta tags are the same.

    For example:
    Tag X
    Tag X/page/2/
    Tag X/page/3/
They all have the same meta tags, which Google Webmaster Tools sees it as Duplicate title tags issue.

If there anyway I can edit the meta tags for each of these pages, or can I noindex the rest page and keep the first page?

    Thanks,

Has anyone experienced the same issue? Any advices will be greatly appreciated!

i have the same problem. I prevented indexation for ” Subpages of Homepage”. Since they actually are homepage subpages. And also tried with disallow robots. This was three days ago. Now i’m waiting for Google crawlers to do their job. Above and beyond I don’t know what possibly do.

The plugin allows for a %%page%% variable to be used in title tags and doesn’t output meta descriptions on paged archives, so if you add the %%page%% variable to the titles you should be all set!

Thanks Joost. The only thing is though, if you set a specific title & description for a tag, then this title is duplicated on sub-pages, not using the %%page%% template set in the plugin options. Therefore the title is duplicated on all sub-pages.

We allow search engines to crawl and index our tag pages as this is a way we group our content. I might be useful if you could use the
%%page%% option when you actually set a specific title & description on an individual tag.

    Do you agree??

Thinking more about this, a better option might be to have an option in your plugin to simply no-index sub-tag pages?

Therefore the first tag page is indexed, and subsequent tag pages would have noindex set. Then it wouldn’t matter that your subpages have duplicate meta/titles.

Perhaps this is the solution Joost?

    What about:
    Page
    Title Template: %page_title% – %sitename%

The noindex feature for subpages is coming indeed.
