• I have the problem, like many others, of the plugin not creating sitemap.xml (and I’ve looked in various directories and it’s nowhere to be found).

On the WP SEO plugin dashboard in the ‘Settings advice’ section at the top of the page; the content is a red stripe. No text; just a red stripe. Is this meant to be highliting an error message or does a red stripe denote all’s well?

A number of threads on this support forum mention issues relating to sitemap.xml but so far I’ve not come accross a definitive ‘this is where the sitemap.xml file lives’, this is what should be added to .htaccess (if it isn’t automatically added by the plugin), file & directry permissions, etc.

It would be really useful for many if there was some kind of fault finding / fixing post.

I’m running into the same problem. as ceeeeejay suggested I checked wp-content/uploads/wpseo/ to see what permissions were set and it’s 755. Should it be something else?

    I have the same problem.
My permission on the folder is 777.
But i get as error, its german WP 3.1. and multi-network-site:
    XML-Verarbeitungsfehler: “Junk” nach Dokument-Element
    Adresse: https://www.jenseitsbibliotheken.de/sitemap.xml
    Zeile Nr. 16370, Spalte 1:Sitemap: https://www.jenseitsbibliotheken.de/sitemap.xml

I don′t know, what is wrong.

“See if permissions on this folder are set correctly” – as I pointed out in my original post there’s no mention of what the correct permissions are. In the end I reverted back to the Sitemap plugin I was using before. There’s been a few updates since I posted this thread; and maybe this better documented now?

When I’ve got a bit of spare time I’ll give the sitemap functionality of this plugin another test.

I also have this XML but I believe it’s left there from the previous version. Open it and check the dates, you’ll notice it does not update. Somewhere in the new version changelog I read the plugin does NOT generate a physical file anymore, sounds like, through some redirections, the XML in fact calls a PHP which generates on the fly? (Don’t know how large websites can cope with this?)

I haven’t been able to make it work, either, but I believe pointing to the path you mention will be misleading.

By the way, if anyone else knows the real path or has better info, do share it here. I’m pulling my hair.

All of you should check my latest post, I’ve tried to explain it there. It does indeed not generate a static file, which is in fact better for large sites ??

    Nevermind, oddly it’s working now!

I think I had to change a permission and that did it.

    1. It doesn’t work – clicking the XML Sitemap button on any website I install it on (all using the Weaver theme) returns a 404 page not found error.

    2. Each website I’ve installed it on and activated it on (all Weaver based) have lost ALL of the pages indexed in Webmaster tools.

Deactivating it and reactivating Select XML Sitemap Feed by RavenH see’s the pages slowly being reindexed.
