[Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast] Canonical or 301 Redirect?

  • Hi there – I need to change a category on my site from deals to shop, and I’m not sure what I need to do when I make this change to best direct visitors to the new category. Should I use a canonical URL for this or a 301 redirect? The only thing that will be changing is the category, but since it’s part of quite a few post URLs, I want to do this right.

    Just following up on this – if I change a category name from deals to shop, what’s the best way to direct people to the new category? Does it even matter?

    It seems like search engines would pick up on the fact that I changed the category name and eventually update to that, or am I missing something?
