    FOCUS KEYWORD NOT FOUND

Thank you in advance for considering this.

I am using a premium theme (Elegant Themes (ET) ‘Polished’), also the WordPress SEO plugin, and WP 3.2.1 (of course). I am currently hidden from search engines, am using ‘pretty’ permalinks. I am using a static Home page, and a page for posts I titled Blog. I am pretty much a noob and non-coder.

Even after I make entries in the appropriate WP SEO fields, this is what is reported to me on each page:

Your focus keyword was found in:
    Article Heading: No
    Page title: No
    Page URL: No
    Content: No
    Meta description: No

Below, I have listed details of a specific example, a possibly related issue (<title> section), and a complete list of all of my premium theme’s SEO settings.

How can I make WordPress SEO control Keywords and be assured they are properly set and working?

Thank you for looking at this.

    SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

Here is a complete listing of WP SEO fields and the text I entered for this page: https://www.doctoreq.com/radiation/lifestyle-changes/miso-iodine/

    Snippet preview:
Radioprotective Miso & Iodine – doctorEQ
Miso: Amazing! Iodine: Incredible! Inexpensive & easy to prepare. Protect against radioactivity. Delicious miso soup has been proven to be radioprotective!

Your focus keyword was found in:

    Meta description: No

SEO Title: Miso & Iodine – doctorEQ

Meta Description: Miso: Amazing! Iodine: Incredible! Inexpensive & easy to prepare. Protect against radioactivity. Delicious miso soup has been proven to be radioprotective!

Meta Keywords: (per Joost, I am not at all concerned with this field right now)

    RELATED (<title> section) ISSUE?

While reviewing the general settings for WP SEO, I noticed this:

“Be aware that for WordPress SEO to be able to modify your page titles, the title section of your header.php file should look like this:

    <title><?php wp_title(”); ?></title>

“If you can’t modify or don’t know how to modify your template, check the box below. Be aware that changing your template will be faster.
    [ ]Force rewrite titles “

First, I tried this ‘forced’ checked and unchecked with no apparent difference.

The title section of my header.php file looks like this: “<title><?php elegant_titles(); ?></title>” so I changed that title section to “<title><?php wp_title(”); ?></title>”, saved it, cleared my browser cache and still found no changes.

So, I put it back to “<title><?php elegant_titles(); ?></title>” like it was, saved it, cleared the browser cache and was shaken/afraid when I saw all the site’s tabs were now titled “Array.” Oh great. What’s that? I went back in and ticked the [ ]Force rewrite titles under WP SEO general settings and now the titles look OK again. Whew!

“Use meta keywords tag?” is checked.

COMPLETE LIST OF ELEGANT THEMES ‘POLISHED’ SEO SETTINGS

Note that I have tried various combination of “enabled” and not with no difference that I can see. All currently disabled.

    ePanel>SEO>Homepage SEO

I can enable or disable these and all but the last have related text entry fields:
    Enable custom title
    Enable meta description
    Enable meta keywords
    Enable canonical URL’s

If custom titles are disabled, I can choose an autogeneration method:
    Blog name | Blog description
Blog description | Blog name (current setting)
    Blog name only

    ePanel>SEO>Single Post Page SEO
I can enable or disable, and enter text for:
    Enable custom title
    Enable custom description
    Enable custom keywords
Enable canonical URL’s (no text entry field)

If custom titles are disabled, I can choose an autogeneration method:
Post title | Blog name (current setting)
    Blog name | Post title
    Post title only

ET>ePanel>SEO>Index Page SEO [these two are enabled]
Enable canonical URL’s (no text entry field)
    Enable meta description

    Choose title autogeneration method:
Category name | Blog name (current setting)
    Blog name | Category name
    Category name only

  • You can only have one focus keyword per post, it is NOT the meta keywords tag. Read about why here: https://yoast.com/meta-keywords/

Most excellent. Now my “Your focus keyword was found in:…” section is ALL in the green with “Yes” for each entry.

    Thank you SO much.

    Follow-up question….re: Focus Keywords Phrase

(I get it about the un-needed Meta Descriptions.)

How can I use a focus keyword phrase like “earthquake prediction” instead of having to pick one, like “earthquakes” or “predictions”?

I’ll go with one word if that’s what’s most effective…and am glad to learn this before I flesh-out all my pages.

I like it when all the “Your focus keyword was found in:…” are “Yes” and I bet the search engines do, too.

    TIA

I may have figured it out. Take a look. Is this good?

Counting and charting lost and found pets (dogs, cats & other pets) on Craigslist may help us know when to predict earthquakes. I’ll show you how to do it.

Focus Keyword: Lost and Found Pets

Your focus keyword was found in:
Article Heading: Yes (1) (Top of the page says “Craigslist: Lost and Found Pets” although it looks kind of crummy displayed/repeating right under the page title)
Page title: Yes (1) (“Lost and Found Pets”)
    Page URL: Yes (1) “www.doctoreq.com/predict/lost-and-found-pets/”
Content: Yes (1) (top of the page: “I have not been keeping track of (and charting) lost and found pets for a couple of decades. With a renewed concern for earthquakes, right after Fukushima”)
Meta description: Yes (1) (I know, useless. In case it IS used, I entered this: “Counting and charting lost and found pets (dogs, cats & other pets) on Craigslist may help us know when to predict earthquakes. I’ll show you how to do it.”)

SEO Title: “Lost and Found Pets – doctorEQ”

Meta Description: “Counting and charting lost and found pets (dogs, cats & other pets) on Craigslist may help us know when to predict earthquakes. I’ll show you how to do it.”

    Am I getting it?

    hi
what is strange with this seo, that in the page analyses it reports things which are not correct, like your page title has 73 characters, but in fact it has only 26 characters?
    ????
