Guys, this edges the ridiculous and insane. This is not good marketing, guys, this is a very low and dirty marketing that not only harms your own image, it also scares the prospective (possibly paying) customer away for good.

If you want to charge, then for f*cks sakes, DO SO. But if not, then do the right thing and give the free plugin FREE OF NAG.

Sometimes it is better NOT to give anything at all than give this sort of crap to people!!!

As I said before, and as a matter of fact as I say for a LIVING, the free sample you offer customers is the business card of your business. No one is going to buy something and take home if the free sample tastes awful and looks terrible.

And nags like these just tastes awful and looks ugly too. Not to count that this is totally forcing your hand over people when any five year old knows you get more people with GOOD things. Nag is not good. Spam is not good. Subliminal blackmailing (acquire our other plugin or else we will make the administrative page of your WP blog look like hell with our advertisement) is definitely not good.

Its really a pity. The plugin is so promising. Pity I won’t be trying, because you managed to scare me away. I am one of those who PAY when I like stuff, and I pay well, but I like my free samples to taste and look good before I so dare to invest my money.

And I don’t invest in companies that subject other people to this type of “dirty marketing”, whether they can or not afford it.

  • Totally agreed.

I just hacked the first lines of functions.php in order to get rid of it.

Have to agree…I simple uninstalled it and I’m looking for something else. To much work customizing it anyways. Nice, but the nag is a pain and totally unnecessary.

Feedback received guys, I will pass this onto the team ??

Yeah, and I think spam like this, that shows up on every screen and can’t be removed would usually reject this plugin as being approved on the WordPress plugin site. Thanks for removing it in the future.

Totally agree! I am absolutely furious at WPMU and will NEVER make the mistake of signing up with them again. This spam is TOTALLY unacceptable! They have the worst attitude I’ve ever seen for customer service. You can’t pay me enough to EVER use their membership.

I think this plugin is more than just a NAG.

It’s doing all sorts behind the scenes causing multiple 502 errors, generating unwanted popup ads in the header and multiple conflicts with other basic plugins. Nasty little bit of SPAMMING this.

Highly recommend against using this. Would also recommend that WP remove it from the .org forum.

I had a membership with WPMU and found the whole ordeal atrocious. For the love of Pete (whoever he is) don’t fall for their marketing gimicks, its all a rouse to get you to sign up to pay $70 for a bunch of plugins that INTENTIONALLY don’t work properly so you have to keep paying the monthly fee to get support with all the bugs and errors with the hopes of the plugins someday working properly.

    Hello there @jamieedwards,
We appreciate any constructive feedback you may have to offer. However, the above post does not seem that “constructive” to me. All I can see there is some false claims without any proof.
I took a look at your profile in our forums. It looks like during the time you were a registered member you created 5 topics, and they ALL were one way or the other about the same thing: The plugins you were trying to use needed some theming to be properly styled in the theme that you were using (Canvas theme from WooThemes). I hardly call that a “flaw”.
There are hundreds of thousands of themes out there. No plugin can ever look cool and be 100% compatible with all of them! At least not without a minimal amount of CSS!
Not once in your posts in our forums or emails have I detected a FLAW in one of our plugins that was not due to the particular combination with the theme of your choosing.

Its all a rouse to get you to sign up to pay $70 for a bunch of plugins that INTENTIONALLY don’t work properly so you have to keep paying the monthly fee to get support with all the bugs and errors with the hopes of the plugins someday working properly.

I hope you realize how outrageous and unreal your claim is.
I will not even comment on that.

Maybe it’s a timing thing, but I installed this plugin a few days ago and no spam whatsoever. And it works great here in a multisite install. LOVE this plugin.

IMO, we’re all better served if rants – valid or not – are listed under reviews.
