[Plugin: WordPress MU Domain Mapping] Done everything necessary under my Bluehost accnt, but not wor

  • Hi guys, and special thanx to the plugin develioper.
    Here are the steps I’ve done:

    1- I have a WordPress Multisite Network site on MULTISITE.net where subsites are on sub-folders not sub domains.

    2- I entered the plugin’s settings and entered the IP of Hostmonster’s only one server and left the “Server CNAME domain: ” blank.

    3- I selected these 2 options in the settings:
    Permanent redirect (better for your blogger’s pagerank)
    and
    Redirect administration pages to site’s original domain (remote login disabled if this redirect is disabled)

    4- I bought a new domain DOMAIN1.com and wanted to point it to subsite7. First I assigned the DOMAIN1 to my cpanel.
    Then from the plugin’s Domains page, I mapped the DOMAIN1 to the respective subsite ID
    I tested, it did not work

    5- So I went to my Cpanel’s DNS ZONE EDITOR, and selected the new domain that I want to point to the subsite, then added a CNAME record to it with these values:

    Host Record: @
    TTL: default
    Type: Cname
    Points to: MULTISITE.net

    I tested again, but it did not work. Accessing DOMAIN1 shows a hostmonster page, not the subsite.

    What am I doing wrong ?

    First I assigned the DOMAIN1 to my cpanel.

    How so? Parking or as an add-on?

    Yes I realize that.. the thing is that I had the site running, then after mapping it now does not load for the visitors, and am still stuck with that .. thats why I am in a rush here ??

    iceq – You installed WordPress in a Subfolder, per your other post.

    Ain’t never gonna work.

    If you’re in that much of a rush, you need to hire someone. Bumping posts is not permitted here.

    Do the subsites work before you map ’em, first up?

    Okay. it seems the same problem here. I did not mention that this network (too) I have installed on a subfolder.
    But as I said before, the subsites are rather on subfolders not subdomains. Does that still affects the ability to assign addon domains to subsites?

    If so, there might be a problem , because this sub folder is installed on an account whose PRIMARY domain is another domain connected with a normal WP installation (non multisite), and not the one which is associated with the multisite concerned. This means I can’t move the multiste files to public html because that is the dir of the primary site, and it does not seem like it is possible to install a WP there (despite that fact that the primary domain’s WP installation is inside a subdir not in public html).
    I figured I can change my primary domain. So if the problem highlighted above is indeed because the multisite is not in the root folder, should I change the multisite’s domain to primary domain so I’d be able to install the multisite in public html? (which seems like a nightmare to me, because that means I will indulge in a difficult process of migrating ! )

    Any ideas and thoughts are much appreciated .

    NEWS:

    Okay, I changed the primary domain on my account to be the domain on which the multisite is accessible . Then I moved the multisite dir to the root folder (after it was in a subfolder)
    Now my multisite can be accessed by the domain with no issues.
    Then I unassigned DOMAIN1 which I created for one subsite, and then re-assigned it, but as PARKED domain this time, which redirects to the same primary domain. Which is I wanted, wasn’t it?
    Then I mapped the DOMAIN1 to point to subsite1 , and it works just fine
    Now I can access subsite1 with the new DOMAIN1.

    Is everything fine in terms of SEO and redirection (I mean the parked domain thing)?

    Edit: I noticed that loading the site through the original path (MULTISITE/SUBSITE1) takes a long time untill it forwards to the domain. Is that normal?
