[Plugin: WordPress Move] Worked Fine For Me

I just had to write and tell you how much time this plugin saved me.
I had two subdomains that I wanted to move each to their own full domain.
The first one took me longer than it should have…but after I figured out what I was supposed to put in the ‘settings’ , the second one I seriously was able to do in about 5 minutes.
Works like a charm.
Thanks for the great plugin.

I will try to make the learning curve a lot less steep in the upcoming releases. The plugin needs to assist the users even more.

If it’s helpful for anyone else, here’s the notes I made for myself for next time:
Step 1

• Install WordPress and WordPress Move plugin at new location
• Settings/Wordpress Move: for Remote Backup path, specify NEW location eg. /public_html/www.wilybootcamp.com/wp-content/wordpress-move/backup

Step 2

• Install WordPress Move plugin
• Settings/Wordpress Move: use exactly the same settings as above INCLUDING BACKUP PATH

• Tools/Backup Manager/Create Full Backup
• Tools/Migration Assistant/Migrate

Step 3
Got to new location again.
Tools/Migration Assistant/Restore [select all the files that were created in Step 2]

Sorry should have said that Step 2 is at the OLD (existing) location.

How can I unchange the change in domain name. What files could I access. Currently, I am redirected to the other (unwanted) site and cannot access the old domain name.

Didn’t work for me. I did as you said and can see the files on the new server via FTP in the ***/wp-content/wordpress-move/backup directory so I know everything connected as it should, but nothing converted …I still see the new WP install.

Am I missing a step? Is there something else I need to do after I have “Completed Migration” on the new site?

I was so glad to find this thread as the problems are the exact same as I’m experiencing. However, even following the great step by step guide by bradleysue, the new site still says There are no backup files to use to complete the migration. Please start the migration using WordPress Move on the server you want to migrate from.

I’ve changed the path on the old site to /preview/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-move/backup/, or /preview/ or /preview/backup but no joy. (Preview is the directory in which the wordpress installation sits)

I’ve tried manually uploading the backups into any of those directories, but each time the ‘Restore’ part of the script on the new server fails as it says it can’t find any backups. Is this because it’s not in the root of the FTP share? (i.e. in that /preview/ folder?)

Pulling my hair out here… and there aren’t many left. ?? Any help would really be appreciated. Cheers!

this is the exact same issues I am having. I dont understand why the files are not loading to the correct location. They seam to loading directly into the FTP account but not into the correct directory (the top directory only) – then the restore is not locating any of the backup files.

Does anyone know why this could be?

That happens when you are not giving the right Remote Backup Path.

The path you are giving to should start from the highest directory that your FTP account has access to. The best way to figure it out if you do not know already, is using an FTP client (such as Filezilla), navigating to the /wordpress-move/backup/ directory and copying the full path that your FTP client shows.

Make sure you have the complete path “/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-move/backup” of the new location to where the files will me stored that was my issues.

Hmmm I think I am doing it right. I am putting in:

/public_html/www.intourcorp.com/test/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-move/backup/

Im not using filezilla but maybe I will try to use that to find out if I am using the wrong details. I’m using Rubber Ducky as my FTP and I don’t think it shoes me

okay just realised I did not need all of the stuff at the beginning. This is what I was meant to put:

/www/test/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-move/backup

It seems to be loading the files in the correct folder now. Now just to wait and see if the entire migration works!
