[Plugin: WordPress Mailing List Builder] working with side bar or widgets

Excellent idea for a plugin. Works great in regular posts/pages, but I specifically wanted to place the opt in in the side bar. this is always a pain manually because they never fit.
When I put [mlb /] into the text widget, all I get is “[mlb /]”. it’s not reading it as code, but as text.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
