I did more troubleshooting and it turns out that WordPress gives a blank page when both the current version of Marketpress Lite and the v2.0 Custom Sidebar are activated at the same time.

    Beginners’ Luck?

I’m a WP newbie [WP 3.2.1, Suffusion Theme 3.8.2] developing a “scholarly” site that needs a lotta custom info in a variable second sidebar.

After trying at least half a dozen plug-ins to handle this task, Speck’s “WordPress Custom Sidebar” is the first to work perfectly for me. What a Eureka Moment!

The one thing that didn’t work at first was: I didn’t edit [delete the built-in text] and then publish the “Default Sidebar” (who knew?). So the only custom sidebar I had made at the time was displayed on ALL pages with two theme sidebars because the “default” (blank) option was not available in the drop-down options.

Hoping this tip helps you or Someone Else Out There who tries this FABULOUS plug-in! Check out the super-spiffy result here:

@byap00: This problem is not caused by ‘WordPress Custom Sidebar’. This website-won’t-load-problem is caused by your ‘WordPress eCommerce – MarketPress’ plugin and already discussed on their site. Please be informed, before you post here to everybody, that my plugin is not working properly.

    Philipp,

    Thank you for your reply.
I understand your need to feel defensive about your plugin. Had I known there was a separate discussion over at the Marketpress forums I would have followed it up there instead.
I had to start somewhere right.

    Philip,

I visited that page you linked to and it doesn’t say much about an incompatibility issue between Marketpress and Custom Sidebars. I don’t have a paid membership into the WPMU (Marketpress) forums either so I can’t look there.
At this stage i’m at a loss as to what to do.
