I hate that I am still having trouble with this plugin.

here is history as of 13:09 on 7/20:

Backup started on 2012-07-20 at 05:33:34
Backup completed on 2012-07-19 at 11:17:41
Backup started on 2012-07-19 at 01:55:43
Backup completed on 2012-07-18 at 16:33:27
Backup started on 2012-07-18 at 08:57:07

    1. I have barely changed my wordpress files in last few days. Should it take 8-10 hours to back up?
    2. The last back-up in dropbox is from 7/18. There is no error log for 7/19 or 7/20.
    3. I understand that if nothing has changed except database then only the sql file will be in the backup folder. Is this correct? If so, it would be helpful to put this in documentation.
    4. It would also be helpful if the history were more detailed, esp. when back-up is going on. Seeing as how it is supposedly taking 8 hours it would be good to see if the number of files is actually changing.
    5. I would be happy to recommend this plug-in and donate if it works. At this point I am thinking it is not and I’ll have to replace it.
    Please advise.

    1. The time it takes to complete depends on your host, server settings and the traffic you site gets. This is because the plugin uses WordPress’ quasi cron system that works when you site is visited.

So hypothetically, if you get 24 visits a day (say 1 an hour) and your backup is supposed to take 8 mins to complete in a perfect world. If your host/php settings kill the script after 1 minute then it could take around 8 hours to complete.

This is because the plugin has to recover from death by scheduling another cron task that waits around for visitor to hit your site and kick it off.

    2. I am not sure what you mean.

    3. Added to the FAQ

    4. See point 1

    5. Thanks! I hope to get it working for everyone. v1.2 will be released soon that has a whole bunch of changes to achieve this!

#2 means: the history shows back-ups completed yet there is nothing in dropbox.

For example here is history from 11am today:
Backup started on 2012-07-22 at 01:58:04
Backup started on 2012-07-21 at 04:43:22
Backup completed on 2012-07-20 at 14:15:26
Backup started on 2012-07-20 at 05:33:34

There is nothing in dropbox for 7/20, 7/21 and 7/22 – not even an error log. So it looks like the plugin is not working at all for me.
    Can you help?

still having trouble on August 10th.
    last back up was 8/7/2012

    history says:
Backup started on 2012-08-10 at 04:19:24
Backup started on 2012-08-08 at 06:53:44

I hesitate to purchase a premium extension to get email about backup errors when the basic plugin doesn’t work. Doesn’t inspire confidence.

There was an issue introduced when updating the Dropbox API. This has been fixed in 1.2.1.

    Sorry for any inconvenience.

Sorry – the “issue” should have been announced in the support forum right away. I don’t want to wait 2 days for a response.
    I’ve switched to Blog Vault.
    Good luck with your plugin.
