Plugin won't work
-
Here is, literally, what I inserted in a plain page :
<!–LCSTART–>100<!–LCEND–>
(I’m not sure if it should be <lc></lc>)Resulting page preview show 100 and nothing else.
Here is the test result page https://www.groupemedia.com/test/
I’m in Canada.. so I should see about 98 CDN instead of 100.Also I can not find the Localcurrency Quicktab

Hi Groupemedia,
Right, I’ve managed to replicate that now and can see the same problem. It’s definitely broken somewhere. It’s been a couple of years since I thoroughly tested it with proxies etc, and something must have broken at some point. Embarrasing!
I’ll look into this as it really needs to be fixed, but it can be hard to troubleshoot this stuff, and I have a lot on right now, so it could take a little while. I’ll report back here with updates for you on the progress.
Hi Groupemedia,
So, the cause of the problem is something pretty obvious – it’s caused by caching of the page.
You are seeing the AUD on my test page because I visited it first and it detected me as AUD and now that’s in the cache (or was, it’s set to CNY now). It doesn’t actually detect your location on the server side, because the cache is in the way and it remembers my location.
So it will work fine if you disable your caching plugin – but of course that isn’t feasible. So I need to come up with a solution that gets around this. I have a few ideas and will look into them early next week.
Cheers,
StephenHi Stephen,
I wish you are doing excellent! When should we expect an update on your plugin. Considering the high rate of people using caching or in particular w3 total cache for wordpress.
Hi Groupemedia,
I’m working on a solution. First try didn’t work, but I have a fall back plan that I’m looking into. The only problem is that I’ve had something come up and I’m going to have to put this on hold for 2 weeks while I deal with that. After 2 weeks, I should be back to normal and be ablt to get back to this.
Cheers,
StephenPerfect I will wait 2 weeks.. I put you a good review as I really appreciate your professionalism and quick update.
by the way you should promote it has a e-commerce tool to push price in the currency of visitor country. you will have much more download. start selling service around it

LocalCurrency Plugin won’t work, Also I can not find the Localcurrency Quicktab

stellaHi Stephen you were suppose to get back to us last week.. tell us if you will update your plugins in a reasonable time. We need this to work
Hi Stephen,
I already lost 3 or 4 weeks of potential business with your plugin and I waste time trying to solve the problem with you. If you are not available to answer the ticket and to make sure your plugin is working correctly you need to remove it from wordpress. If I don’t have any answer in 48 hours I will insert appropriate comments and rating and will find other solution then your plugin
Hi groupemedia,
Firstly, I am sorry I didn’t get back to you before this to let you know I’d be delayed.
Unfortunately, my wife’s brother-in-law passed away halfway through the 2 week period I said I’d be away. I had to drop everything to travel overseas to be with his family. I’m now back home, but my wife is still over there, meaning I’m looking after 3 young children by myself.
I have taken leave from my day job to do this, but I still need to do some work for them each night after the kids are alseep.
That means the only time I have to spend on WordPress stuff is a small window starting at around 11 or 12 each night. At that time I have to prioritise any paid work over any work on my free plugins. To be honest, there’s not much paid work at the moment, but once I have that out of the way, I’m mostly too tired to get to the free stuff. This is likely to continue for another couple of weeks, but I have no way of knowing for sure.
I will get back to this and I will try to find a solution, as I want this plugin to work and be helpful to people. However, I can’t commit to any timeframe for a solution at the moment.
It’s probably also worth keeping in mind that I built the plugin and do all the support for it in my minimal free / spare time. I don’t get to watch movies or play games like many other people do. I don’t mind – that’s my choice – but there are limits to the level of support you can expect under that model. I have been thinking about offering a paid support model, so that it actually makes sense for me to be doing this, but I’ve been trying to avoid it.
I know that a) you didn’t know any of this; b) you are trying to run a business and c) I should have got back to you when I said I would, but that’s just the way it has to be at the moment. As I said, I will try to get back to it soon, but can’t promise when. Feel free to rate the plugin or find another solution (or pay someone to build you what you need), if that’s what you need to do.
Cheers,
Stephen@groupemedia Just a couple of points here.
First thing:
Hi Stephen you were suppose to get back to us last week.. tell us if you will update your plugins in a reasonable time. We need this to work
While I do admire Stephen’s patience (I am very sorry to read about his family’s problems and Stephen has my condolences) you have to remember that you are using free software that Stephen is voluntarily supporting on his own free time.
You are a software user, you are not Stephen’s customer and he does not owe you a thing. Please moderate your expectations appropriately.
Second point:
If I don’t have any answer in 48 hours I will insert appropriate comments and rating and will find other solution then your plugin
Really? I sincerely suggest you follow Stephen’s advice which is this:
Feel free to rate the plugin or find another solution (or pay someone to build you what you need), if that’s what you need to do.
That would be the best outcome for you. Your replies in this thread are borderline hostile and that’s just not any good at all.
Hi Jan,
Thanks firstly for your condolences. Also, thanks for reiterating that my work on this is voluntary and for pointing out that perhaps expectations should be adjusted accordingly. Both are much appreciated.
That said, Groupemedia wasn’t to know my personal circumstances. Also, I did tell him I couldn’t look at this for 2 weeks (it’s past that) and I hadn’t answered a previous post from him. I’ve been in his shoes and know how frustrating it is when you need support and don’t hear back within timeframes that you’ve been promised. Apologies for that Groupemedia.
I do need to make the plugin work with caching plugins and will continue to look into this. I just can’t promise any timeframe at the moment.
Groupemedia, if that meets your needs, great! If not, I hope you find another solution for your needs.
I’ll report back here as I make progress.
Cheers,
Stephen.My sincere condolences Stephen,
I will try to find another solution.Hi anyone who’s still watching this,
I’ve started investigating this further now – here’s an upate on my progress.
First, the good news:
I have a workaround that seems to make LocalCurrency work with caching plugins. I’ve tested with W3 Total Cache and with HyperCache so far.
Next, the bad news:
Although I have a proof of concept test that returns the correct exchange rate, I’m going to need to rewrite a fair bit of the plugin to make everything work properly (ie get the symbols correct, etc). Not sure of a timeframe for this, but I will try to get it done in the next couple of weeks.
Perfect It work pefectly on my managed dedicated server https://www.centerserv.com
One question? I want to remove the currency scroll down and be able to place it where I want. So I believe I need to remove the code which is rendering it and then simply insert the table TAG where ever I want it.
with world currency it was something like [worldcurrencytable].what is the best way to remove the rendering and place it where I want..
