• I installed ‘max hit counter” and everything was fine, then it crashed and quit working, stuck at #156 I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and changed the counter look in the plugin, thinking it was maybe that selection that had a problem… Well when I was logged in the “new look” showed and was working fine. the instant I logged out the “old look” re-appeared on the front end with the number it “died” at 156..
I uninstalled “max hit counter” and put a different plugin in. Problem fixed–I thought–when I was logged in, the new counter showed, and when I logged out–there was the old “max hit counter 156”– max hit counter wasn’t even installed and it was showing up. I tried counter after counter and even some of the HTML counters that you can get off the internet.. I got to thinking that maybe when I did some css with siteorigin plugin that maybe somehow it got stuck in the editing of the footer. I went back through the siteorigin plugin and sure enough there was the “max hit counter” in the css even though the plugin was not installed at the time. I deleted it off, and got the host company to clear the cache. I thought—Aha! gotta be fixed now..
Again I put a different counter plugin on board, and lo and behold there was the new counter when I was logged in ,and when I logged out–UGH there is the old max hit counter stuck at 156..
I want a counter plugin as I want to do some website promotion, and want to know what works.. Also being a bit of a perfectionist this issue is driving me nuts..
I put a note on another section of the forum and this fellow suggested that the fastest cache plugin might be causing the problem..
Does anyone have any ideas?? Should I “chuck” the fastest cache? How to I fix this problem?? I am about to pull my hair..
I admit I am a newbie ( really new in fact ) and this is frustrating me to pieces. max hit counter is not installed, but elegant counter is- and on the front end in the footer is the “max hit counter” as pretty as you please..the cache has been cleared several times, both my browser cache and web cache all that remains is fastest cache, or some “max hit code” hiding somewhere..
    Please would appreciate any help..
    thanks

I am sooooooo happy !!!! I deactivated the fastest cache, and my NEW counter is working and showing on the front end!!! Now I am wondering if there was NO problem with max counter after all, and if that is the reason some of the counters that I tried out would not count?? Maybe it “froze them up” with a memory in the cache?
I wonder if there is any other plugin that might speed up my website?

The counters do not work with the cache plugins properly.

I was reading the other day that supposedly “ajax” plugins seem to work with the cache plugins, don’t know if that is true or not, but if it is, it might help someone who is having the same problems that I had…

if the counter counts via Ajax, it works properly with the cache plugins.
