    Hey Annie,

To use this plugin it depends what you’re trying to achieve as there are two ways to add the sidebars/widgets to pages.

    1) If you want to, as an editor/author, add a widget to a page in an adhoc style then use you add the shortcode for the relevant sidebar to the page or post content when you’re writing it. This was you don’t need to touch any of your theme’s files. There is a vid of how to do this over on YouTube

    2) If you want to add a sidebar to all pages/posts of a certain type then you add the template tag to the theme’s relevant template.php file.

Thanks Todd. It’s 2) that I’m trying to attempt. Want to add the widget (using text) as a sidebar on a single page, not as part of the main content. Am using TwentyEleven theme. Perhaps this is beyond my technical know-how. Not sure what you mean by “template tag” and not sure that the relevant template.php file would be. Sidebar.php? Sorry to be so hopeless. Any advice is MUCH APPRECIATED. Thanks!

Anne, no worries.., lets start at the top.
Do you have a link to your site?

Perhaps it would be useful if you can explain exactly what are you trying to achieve here?

Thanks so much Todd. Here’s the site: https://www.toadsdevtesting.com
On the static Home page, want to add a text message on right side.
Similarly, on the Events page, want to add a text message on right side.
Using Widgets on Pages, am trying to add text into the right-hand sidebar area.
    Hope this makes sense.
    Many thanks again,
    Annie

    Annie,

From what I can tell I don’t think that the Widgets on Pages is the best plugin for the job. It looks like you want to conditionally show widgets dependant on the page you’re looking at… for this I’d recommend Widget Logic… have a look at this and feel free to come back if this doesn’t suit your needs.

Todd, thanks for the suggestion and apologies for my tardy reply. Took a while for me to figure all this out. Yes. W Logic was what I needed. Many thanks for all your patience and help.
    Annie.

    Hi Todd,

I am having the same trouble. I don’t understand how to

    ” add a shortcut to a page “

Do I need to go into the template editor and add the code?

I would like to add a photo slideshow to my static page ( not the blog page)

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!!

    Thanks!

    Hey condor575,

If you’re simply wanting to add a widget/widget area to a post or page you’re writing then you need to put the shortcode into the content whilst writing the post in the editor. The shortcode can be seen in the Appearances->Widgets admin screen in the Widgets on Pages sidebar (will be something like this [widgets_on_pages id=”wop_1″]

    Hope this helps,
    Todd

    Thanks Todd!!!

Glad it worked… good luck with the site.

Oh, if you like the plugin (and the support) then a nice *cough* 5 star *cough* rating over here would be really appreciated.

    Ta,
    Todd

OK just installed this on a WP site. Followed instructions and the only thing it’s showing is the shortcode itself on the site. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Hey there,

Did you type the shortcode or did you copy and paste? I’ve had reports that if you copy and paste then sometimes formatting is included and this means the shortcode just displays as text.

    Hi Todd,

I think your plugin is exactly what I need but I can’t seem to make it work.
I got as far as I have the two widgets (I have one additional one) appear on the Widgets page but when I paste the code
    [widgets_on_pages]
    on a page, nothing happens.

    This is my testing page:
    https://www.webpronto.co.nz/testarea/newwpsite/design/

Any ideas what am I doing wrong?
    Many thanks,
    Ildi

    Hey Ildi,

This is odd… If I check the source of that page I don’t see any Widgets On Pages widget areas.

Any chance you can post up a screen shot of your widgets admin area so I can see what you have configured on the backend?

    Ta,
    Todd

Hm, you see I don’t even know how to put up a screenshot here. Can I also email you on gingerbread?

    thanks,
    Ildi
