• After installing this plugin and testing it for a while, I noticed that the favicon for my site is now mysteriously just like that of your Webo site.

I didn’t have a favicon installed yet, but it’s really not appropriate for you to hijack that and put your favicon there. Not cool.

Is there a way to disable the favicon?

  • From YSlow:

A favicon is an icon associated with a web page; this icon resides in the favicon.ico file in the server’s root. Since the browser requests this file, it needs to be present; if it is missing, the browser returns a 404 error (see “Avoid HTTP 404 (Not Found) error” above). Since favicon.ico resides in the server’s root, each time the browser requests this file, the cookies for the server’s root are sent. Making the favicon small and reducing the cookie size for the server’s root cookies improves performance for retrieving the favicon. Making favicon.ico cacheable avoids frequent requests for it.

Perhaps it would be better if you let users know that they need to install a favicon and offer the option of providing yours?

Still not cool to be automatically installing your favicon on other peoples’ sites.

If there is no such favicon.ico — it was downloaded. It seems WEBO Site SpeedUp v1.0 will detect favicon.ico from website itself and will try to duplicate it in the website root.

Where’s Webo? I can’t find it today listed as a WP plugin?

hmm, it seems it’s been removed for unregistered users – we are going to check the situation
