• While trying to establish the self-hosted CDN feature using W3 Total Cache, under Performance > CDN tab and clicking the “Test FTP Server” button always fails; displays “Error: Unable to connect to subdomain.domain.com:21.”

I believe this may be related:

I noticed when accessing FTP via a web browser my shared hosting service requires you specify either the username (will prompt for password) or username and password in the url string. Example: ftp://[email protected] OR ftp://username:[email protected]

If the username or username/password are missing it will throw an error, “550 /: No such file or directory”

Including the username/password as in the example above under the “FTP Hostname” text box for W3 Total Cache does not work. MY QUESTION IS – HOW DO I GET AROUND THIS?

I’ve seen many other posts regarding shared hosting users unable to connect W3 Total Cache with their FTP servers but none addressing this specific issue. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • You need to submit a bug submission form from the support tab of the plugin so i can look at your case first hand.

FYI – I Submitted a bug report and will inform y’all if/when it gets resolved.

I’ve replied to all emails surrounding this issue that I had. If someone is still having a problem please contact me.

I am having the same ftp problem. Seems like so many sites that are using this plugin are failing to implement the same features just as I am. There must be a glitch since many cannot get this feature to work. The problem is that it cannot successfully connect via ftp. I love the plugin and it has already helped my site, I just hope there is a solution to this…
? Grade F on Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN)
? Grade F on Add Expires headers
I have tested my ftp connection with an ftp program so I know the settings are correct. I can visit my subdomain fine so I know that is working too. I have searched all these blogs and replies and can not find a solution. I have also created a help ticket in the plugin. Any insight to this would be greatly appreciated. The plugin is awesome and would love to get it to work 100%. THANK YOU.

Self-hosted CDN will always fail tests because it’s not a real CDN and even some real CDN providers are unknown to different tools. You can submit a bug submission form so I can try to find the issue, but thus far I can’t duplicate the issue and I don’t think I saw your bug submission. Please try again.
