[Plugin: W3 Total Cache] Self-Hosted CDN Questions

  • I’ve set up a self-hosted CDN and it’s working fine, but what exactly does “(and update your DNS zone)” mean? I can adjust DNS zones through WHM, but I don’t understand what exactly I’m supposed to be changing.

    Secondly, when loading my cdn (cdn.unfinishedman.com) it simply shows the raw directory. It seems like other sites using self-hosted CDN’s (such as Yoast) re-direct to the primary domain when viewing the cdn.

    Any thoughts?

    Yoast doesnt use a self hosted CDN. I think he is with either Akamai or NetDNA. Any CDN provider allows you to specify a custom domain… most people going with something like (static.domain.com or cdn.domain.com) etc.

    You need to make sure that the subdomain you created can be accessible on the internet, so your DNS zone is where you do that. Ask your web host for help.

    Yoast is not relevant to your case, there are no redirects involved. A self-hosted CDN provides additional pipelining which will improve your site’s render performance.
