[Plugin: W3 Total Cache] Minify template choice virtually ignores location

When adding files to Javascript or CSS minify, I would expect choosing Template: Single to make that file apply to only single templates.
Instead, that file is only minified on that page, but the file remains linked and unminified on any other page.
How can I make this perform as I expected? Or is this behavior misleading?
Essentially, I realize that only some scripts or CSS from plugins need to load on the front page, others only need to be on the single pages/posts. Can W3TC do this with the minify options?
