[Plugin: W3 Total Cache] Feature Request – Import External Media to CDN
-
The “Import external media library attachments” option for the CDN is a great tool in itself.
I have a request if you wouldn’t mind considering expanding on it a bit.
I use another separate plugin called “FeedWordPress”, it basically takes an assigned RSS feed from other sites and turns those into posts awaiting approval on a scheduled basis.
Problem is, is that FeedWordPress statically hot links images from the source. I’ve just gotten used to manually changing those so that I am not stealing bandwidth from my friends sites.
At first I thought the Import External Media option was going to be my savior, and it has helped tremendously. But I soon figured out that If I run that a couple times it doesn’t actually overwrite or ignore content that has already been imported. It’ll create a duplicate copy with a incremental identifier.
Example
First Import
picture_file.jpg -> picture_file.jpgSecond Import
picture_file.jpg -> picture_file1.jpgThird
picture_file.jpg -> picture_file11.jpgSo here’s my idea, could be done in different ways.
-Give the option to ignore already imported sources if it exists on the CDN already
-Add a option that will show up in the Add>Post area to scan an individual post for external media to be hosted locally
-Modify the “Publish” button to scan the individual post being published to scan for external sources and import them into the CDN.yes? no? maybe so?
