What does the Domain Rename Tool do? I can guess a couple possibilities but it would be nice to know for sure. ??

  • This tool should not be used by anyone unless you have previously had your blog (and it’s attachments) associated with a different domain.

Hehe. I guess that is a reasonable answer. If it’s not really for general consumption, maybe the button should be buried somewhere instead of at the top of the CDN config page?

The use case is common and the button only appears alone when some CDN method are selected. This is changed in the next release.

I still think that some explanation of what it does would be nice. I still don’t understand what it’s supposed to be for.

The explanation was in my first past.

Restated: It renames the paths of attachments for the case where you switched from www. to without etc so that there are no redirects etc in your attachment URIs in posts/pages.
